My typing tutor uses text files that anyone can write on almost any word processor or text editor. You could even use copy con to write a text file. Edit is great for writing lessons. What does this accomplish?
You can write special lessons with great ease.
Qwerty, Dvorak, left handed Dvorak, right handed Dvorak, or any other keyboard lessons can be written in a few minutes. Into legal typing? Write lessons with legal words. Don't like my lessons. Write some. Too few lessons? Write some.
A typing tutor should start with the home keys. Different keyboards have different home keys. Home keys are introduced first. Nearby keys are next. Get the idea? Different keyboards need different tutor lessons. Do you have to have different lessons? Of course not. I learned on a Qwerty tutor. When I found out there was a single-handed Dvorak I was hell bound to learn. I would have learned no matter what. Many people do not adapt as well. This tutor is to make it easier for people to learn. Younger children need more help.
Text is extracted from the lesson file until a return character is found. This is line one. Text is extracted again until another return character is found. This string of text is line two. There are six lines. When you write lessons you must strike the return key at the end of each line including line 6. Extra spaces at the end of lines cause problems. You will not go to the next line smoothly. If lessons don't work properly you just take the lesson into EDIT and rework it. Remove extra spaces and be sure the return in struck at the end of each line. The tutor will take any file you name as a lesson. Some odd looking things happen. I know of no ill results from asking for you autoexec.bat as a lesson. Don't save lessons with the cursor sitting at the end of line six. There are about 60 characters in each line. If a line is too long it will get out of it's fence. Not pretty, but harmless.
