Now you are not "mouthing" the words when you read and you are practicing using your peripheral vision. Next you must try to read more than one word at a time. Try to increase the number of words you are taking in as you look at the text. It is all pretty simple.
The best beginning practice can be had by reading material with narrow columns. Practice until you can read the whole line of a newspaper column. How long must you do this? From now on! It doesn't cost anything. It is not difficult or uncomfortable. Hopefully you have many years ahead to practice. Each and every time you read you must be aware of the fact that you are trying to take in an ever increasing amount of text. As the time goes by the day will come when you can look at a small paragraph and take it in at one gulp. If you are presenting you can then tell what it said without looking. What a pleasure!
If you note what you have read here and put it into practice your reading will improve right away. As the years go by you will be amazed at what the mind can accomplish. You are reading with your mind instead of your mouth!
