ftp...It's soooo easy when you know how!

Open WSFTP and click connect. Here is what you will see.

An Example
I have used Carole's name for the example. The url for this page would be:

http://www.brandonfla.com/~carole

I have shown here what you would enter into wsftp to configure it to upload to this site.

Profile Name
Note that the entree into Profile Name can be anything. GrandPa's Site would do fine. This is the name of this "profile". If you hit the arrow on the right you will find numerous "profiles" that were provided for you by the software maker. You will find the MicroSoft ftp site, WSFTP ftp site, The Smithsonian Institute ftp site, and others. Now you will find Carole's Site among the other famous folks.

Host Name/Address
The Host Name/Address will be the same for everyone. The provider (that is me) tells you this address. The ftp site is www.brandonfla.com.

Host Type
The default Host Type is for "Automatic Detect" and we leave it that way. You can hit the arrow and see different host types. This software can detect the "type" and so we let it.

The User ID
The User ID is the name I entered into the server as your user ID. Mine is bharrell. John Taylor's is jtaylor. It can be anything within reason. Here I have used carole as the example.

The Password
I have shown the password here. In WSFTP the password will be echoed in asterisks ****** to prevent it from being seen. The site requires at least 5 characters. I can change your password with great ease. If you forget it I can enter another. I don't know of anyway I can look it up unless I just happen to remember what I entered for you. That won't last long. I sometimes use a long dead, but not forgotten, grandmother's maiden name. I will never forget that (I hope). Check the box to save the password. Click apply to save the profile. Click OK and you are off to your very own site. Upload your files. WSFTP is easy. Mark the file and click the arrow! Upload or download?

Account and Comment
You don't need to put anything into Account or Comment boxes.

Your "Profile" is not saved until you click on Apply

Security
There is no security. Your site is open to the public. Your password keeps out people that might want to tinker with your files for kicks and allows only you to upload and download via ftp. Don't put anything here you don't want the world to see. Back it up! Back it all up!

Initial Startup Folders

Hit the "Startup" tab to get here

You will probably want to enter a startup folder for the web site. What folder do you want to go to first? You will surely want to have a startup local folder. From where are you going to upload? From C:homepage or from A:? I often upload from A drive. You don't have to enter this data as you can move around from WSFTP both on the web site and in your local drives.

You won't need the Initialize Command or any other boxes.

It is nice to start up in the folders you want to be in.
