Brooksie Jones... A little memorial
This is the grave site of Brooksie Jones and her husband Ellie Jones. They are buried at Orange Hill Cemetary near Tampa, Florida.
My mother took me to visit the grave of Brooksie Jones around sixty years ago. She told me that Brooksie was a friend who had died of cancer. I went back and found the grave in February of 2006. I had thought about being there many times. Somehow I never got around to it until now.
It seems that Ellie is buried on the left here. The marker only says Jones. The headstones are handmade of shells and cement. Someone went to a lot of trouble to build them. I suspect that many tears are mixed with the cement.
I remember being at the home of a Mr Jones who lived of Highway 41 just past Delaney Creek. I remember that you could look off the back porch into the creek and see fish and crabs. There was a swimming hole where the children swam. Margaret Jones came to my house and played one day. I was so happy to have her. After so many years I still remember being very sad when dark came and we had to come inside. I think that Mr. Jones was Ellie and that Brooksie was Margaret's mother. Margaret was a little older than I was.

Here is a closer view of the marker someone made. I think Oder is the name of a parent of Brooksie and the marker belongs on the next grave. I have never seen the name before but found it common in Germany and Poland. A lot of love went into this marker.
This page is put here as a little memorial to Brooksie Jones who was a beloved friend of my mother.
Brooksie Jones was a loving mother, wife, and daughter. It is good that she be remembered.
Brooksie Jones died at 27 on November 23, 1935. Ellie Lee Jones died at the age of 35. I think the year was 1943. God bless them both.
